USA vs IRAN… My Travel Perspective
A lot is going on at the global front right now and it is
difficult for anyone to predict accurately where this will end. There have been
many speculations from several travelers about visiting the USA or IRAN as the
case may be and how these events can affect t visa decisions.
Based on the quick analysis of the recent happenings;
President Trump ordered a drone strike that killed Gen. Soleimani(an Iranian
general) who has been labeled as a terrorist by the USA and accused of planning
attacks on United States citizens and facilities.
This single step has caused an uproar in Iran and the citizens
are seeking revenge. The United States government in preparation for war has
been sending more troops to the Middle East. The present situation is that the
whole world is on red alert for a possible war which we pray will not happen.
So how does this affect you?
ü BORDER CONTROL; In the event of any
threat nations usually respond by beefing up securities at their borders and
also perform further scrutiny on who they permit into their country. How does
this affect you? it means if it took you 10 days to get a visa before, expect
the process to take much longer as there is a likely occurrence of rigid analysis of your application so plan accordingly and apply
early.
ü Every application that doesn’t have a
strong; sorry, a very strong reason to want to visit the USA will likely be
rejected, as this time is a period when only critical and important travel purposes
will be entertained.
ü Understand that the USA government
does not owe anyone any explanation for refusal and also has the right to
refuse anybody whether you are a governor, VVIP or normal citizen. How does
this affect you? Don’t be too sure of yourself under any application category
so prepare more for your visa interview and be ready to answer more questions.
ü Before now, Africans have witnessed a
sharp drop in the number of US visas been issued to us, so I expect the numbers
will further be greatly reduced and fewer visas will be approved.
ü Also note, your religion can have a
role to play in the outcome of your visa. No one wants to give a ‘supposed
enemy a chance on their soil’. This may not be a major reason for denial but
might be a subtle determinant.
ü Mind what you post on social media.
The world is already a global village and anything you say remains out there
for as long as only God knows; so mind your commentary and avoid joking with
sensitive issues.
ü In a volatile season like this you
need to ask yourself some critical questions; Do I want to be located anywhere
close to where the GBAS GBOS is likely to happen?MUST I rally take this trip?
If YES, then how important?
In conclusion, do not let fear limit you from applying for
your visa, if you have a good reason to visit the USA or IRAN, then take the
bold step and apply. I wish you well.
